TRON, the virtual reality gaming company, has just launched a new service called “Trion Worlds” that will let players create their own adventures and characters in a series of stories based on the TRON universe.
The company says it has created more than 100 virtual worlds for the project and that it expects the game to sell more than a million virtual currencies by 2020.
“We believe this new service will enable our community to create an epic world filled with rich, dynamic characters and worlds, and help us provide value for our players,” TRON CEO Tim Cain wrote in a blog post on Tuesday.
“Trion World is truly the most immersive and dynamic VR experience ever created, and we are thrilled to announce that it will be available to the world for free on April 15,” Cain added.TRON has long struggled to establish itself as a player-friendly platform for virtual reality.
The game’s developers, the TRon Studios, have struggled to get players to commit to paying for subscriptions, which have made the game difficult for some gamers to access.
TRON has also been slow to adapt to the growing number of virtual reality headsets, which can require more complex controls than their physical counterparts.
Trion’s TRON Worlds, which is free, will be one of the first games available for purchase in the TRX virtual reality headset market.
According to Cain, the company hopes to be able to expand TRON World’s offerings in other virtual reality products.
“Over the last several years, we have spent countless hours in the trenches of developing new tools and technologies to enable our developers to create more immersive and fun experiences for players and audiences,” Cain said.
“We have come to realize that these technologies are not just good for the games, they are also good for our industry, and they will continue to provide the foundation for a future of more immersive VR experiences.”TRON Worlds will be launched alongside the release of TRON: Legacy, the latest iteration of the game.
In addition to a new game mode and a revamped version of the original TRON game, the game will also include a number of new features.
Among the new features announced Tuesday are a new level editor and a new way for players to play the game online.
“TRON: Legend” was originally released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The original TRon game was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2017.
TRon: Legacy will be released on the Xbox One in the first quarter of 2020.
